Overview
Mustang means “fertile plain” in their local language. It is the former Kingdom of Lo. It is part of north-central Nepal, bordering to Tibetan plateau between the region of Dolpo and Manang.
Mustang is divided into two-part as lower Mustang and upper Mustang. Upper Mustang is called the Kingdom of Lo region, this region is the magic of the nature and wonder of the culture or a paradise on earth. To get into these both regions you need to have a different permit. Kagbeni is the official border to upper Mustang, where is the permit check post. Just after Gyu La (pass) east of Kagbeni brings you into the hidden magical world and in-depth amazing authenticity of the Tibetan Buddhist kingdom of Mustang “Lo” used to be part of the Tibetan empire so still today their geographical, social and cultural way of life very closely related to Tibet. Tibetan Buddhism is still being practiced in a very pure way and their settlements are also as same as in Tibetan. Mustang is still like an independent kingdom socially and culturally that’s why their authenticity lives as before.
